Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

A proper afternoon tea usually includes scones, clotted cream, jam, tea, cakes, and often finger sandwiches… and we’ve got everything you need to do the lot!

Cream tea is usually limited to scones, clotted cream, jam, and tea. Afternoon tea is a larger spread that can also include cakes, finger sandwiches, bread, and other treats.

The “best” scone for an afternoon tea or cream tea is based on your personal preference. With plain English scones, English raisin scones, and Irish soda scones, we have a selection to suit all tastes!

American scones tend to be larger, sweeter, more dense, and triangular in shape! British scones, on the other hand, tend to be smaller, fluffier, and round in shape. While an American scone if often eaten by itself, a British scone is typically sliced in two, then topped with a combination of clotted cream and either raspberry or strawberry jam. Both American and British scones are delicious - with each serving a different type of occasion.

The Brits are world-renowned for their tea drinking, which typically involves a well brewed black tea, such as English Breakfast tea, which is served hot and topped with a dash of milk. On the other hand, Americans often consume ice tea or sweet tea, served cold and often quite sugary!

Clotted cream is a thick spread made from the process of pasteurising heavy cream. It has a smooth texture and a rich, creamy flavour, being considerably thicker and more intensely flavoured than whipped cream. It is commonly associated with the British and Irish Isles, and in particular the county of Devon. In the UK, clotted cream is considered an essential element of a traditional English cream tea, or Afternoon tea, where the clotted cream is served spooned onto the top of a warm and freshly baked scone; typically along with either a strawberry or raspberry preserve which is used to counterbalance the creaminess of clotted cream by providing a fresh burst of sweetened fruit jamminess.

Of course! Afternoon tea bundles, cakes, teas, jams, scones, and clotted cream make thoughtful gifts for British food lovers, expats, and anyone else who loves British cuisine.

English Breakfast is the classic choice. Earl Grey is lighter and more fragrant, while Irish Breakfast and Scottish Breakfast suit customers who prefer a stronger regional blend.
