Brilliant, just like pork pies that I remember from back home, pork and pastry both perfect. But we don’t bother with the gelatin.

Yum!

I had been craving a pork pie as I've lived in the US for 57 years now and have not been back to England since 1985. This is the genuine article, believe me!

Our Traditional cured pork pie, reminiscent of the North of England

Our Traditional cured pork pie is a Northern-England style pork pie like those typically found in quality butchers' in the North of England. This traditional pork pie is hand-crafted with cured pork, and is fully seasoned with a pinker complexion than our Melton Mowbray pork pie. The result is a hearty pork pie with a satisfying filling and a crisp crust.

Enjoy your Traditional cured pork pie warm out of the oven (as they are accustomed to do in the North), or if you prefer, enjoy it chilled at room temperature. Pair it with Branston pickle or a decent chutney, mustard or HP Sauce for a true British treat. Our pork pies are perfect for picnics, ploughman’s lunches, or simply a comforting taste of home.

Each 14oz pie arrives frozen and ready to bake, complete with full baking directions and an easy-to-follow video tutorial to help you achieve that perfectly baked crust.

How do I cook this product?

The cooking process is found on the product packaging, and can also be found below. For best results, cook from frozen.

    1. Preheat oven to 400°F, then remove pork pie from its outer packaging. Set aside the enclosed Gelatin Sachet.
    2. Keep the pork pie in the foil tin and place it on a baking tray. In a separate bowl, whisk an egg, then lightly egg-glaze the top of the pork pie.
    3. Bake for 20 mins at 400°F, then lower to 375°F for a further 55–60 mins until the Pork Pie is golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 165°F+.
    4. Let cool for 10–15 minutes before carefully removing the pork pie from the foil tin (retain foil tin for Steps 6–8).
Place the pork pie in the fridge for 3 hours to cool thoroughly. Once cooled, add the gelatin (optional).
    5. Take the foil tin and form a spout by crimping the edge with your fingers.
    6. Pour in the Gelatin Sachet and mix with 220ml (1 cup) lukewarm tap water (90–100°F). Do not use hotter water as gelatin may clump. Mix well, then rest until the gelatin liquid becomes clear.
    7. Carefully pour a little of the gelatin liquid into the Pork Pie. Work slowly and repeat several times until about 1/4 – 1/3rd of the liquid has been used. Safely discard remaining gelatin.
    8. Place the pork pie in the fridge for 3 hours to allow the gelatin to set. Then enjoy!

Do you have to add the gelatin? Short answer - no. Some customers choose not to use the gelatin and still love the pie. Others say adding it creates a more traditional texture. It is completely down to personal preference.
